ISLAMABAD: The Charsadda police have arrested a top militant commander Qari Roohullah and his accomplice who were planning tocarry out bomb blasts at the shrines of saints on Sunday.Charsadda District Police Officer (DPO) told SAMAA that the militantcommander was arrested from a mosque in the Battagram area of Shabqadartehsil. Corrupt officers not to be tolerated in Islamabad Police: IGP

ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam has warned the police officers to amend their attitude and ensure friendly policing in the Capital otherwise strict action would be taken against them. Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam has said that black sheeps bringing bad name to police department will not be tolerated. He appealed the citizens to lodge the complaint in case of misuse of authority by any policemen and assured to address their problems. (more…)

Albanians voting to elect new parliament

TIRANA: Albanians were voting Sunday in legislative elections seen as crucial for the European future of the country, with polls showing the two main rivals neck and neck.Some 3.1 million voters are being asked to elect 140 parliamentary deputies for a four-year mandate in the election — the seventh since the fall of communism in the 1990s — choosing among 4,000 candidates representing 39 parties and coalitions.Polling stations opened at 7 am (0500 GMT) and were due to close 12 hours later. AI asks India to end torture in IHK

ISLAMABAD: The global human rights watchdog, Amnesty International (AI) has said the government of India must take immediate steps to end all kinds of torture and other ill-treatment, in accordance with the AI charter. The programme director of AI for Asia Pacific, Sam Zarifi in a letter to the Indian Home Minister, P Chidambaram said that the human rights watchdog continued to receive reports of torture and ill- treatment of individuals in custody from Jammu and Kashmir, KMS reported. Anti-Pakistan elements are terrorists: Gilani

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday all anti-Pakistan elements are terrorists and they have no religion, belief and geographic boundaries.     Talking to media after offering Fateha at the grave of Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi Shaheed in Jamia Naeemia here, he said  “In my view, those elements, who are against Pakistan, are terrorists,”     (more…)
